Vital to Acquire KV Materials, the former Ceramic Target Business of Samsung Corning Advanced Glass, LLC

Vital Materials Co., Limited (Vital) has finalized the acquisiton of KV Materials (KVM), previously a division of Samsung Corning Advanced Glass, LLC (“SCG”), a joint venture between Samsung Display and Corning Incorporated.


The acquisition of KVM is highly complementary to Vital’s existing ITO solutions, enabling Vital to benefit on synergies across markets, products and ongoing research activities from day one. With a team of over 250 people, post-merger procedure is underway to integrate KVM’s R&D, operations, sales and administrative functions into Vital’s organizational structure.


Headquartered in Gumi, South Korea, KVM brings 20+ years of manufacturing excellence delivering ITO, IZO and IGZO to the display market, a critical area of growth for Vital’s ITO solutions. In parallel, KVM will be utilizing Vital’s existing relationship with key OEMs to promote next-generation high-mobility ceramic materials, specifically developed for future semiconductor applications.


KVM will become part of Vital’s Thin Film Materials business unit, active in research, development, production, sales and recycling of sputter targets and evaporative materials for physical vapour deposition. “The synergies created by the acquisition will make Vital a stronger and reliable partner for new and existing customers around the globe, opening new high-growth markets and opportunities. ” stated Olivier Bracher, Vice President of Vital Thin Film Materials.


Vital Thin Film Materials’ product portfolio includes high purity metals, complex metal alloys, precious metals and ceramics for Display, Photovoltaic, Semiconductor, Optics, LED, Data Storage and Glass applications that aligns seamlessly with KVM’s ceramic target business.


Vital will continue to grow and invest in downstream capabilities to support our customers with innovative solutions for today’s fast changing technologies.
